In the busyness of our routines, we can lose sight of the beautiful parts of our lives. Seeing the romance in everyday living is about focusing on the special, often over looked parts of our day. Then searching for ways to make more moments special whenever possible. The older I get, the more I find that it really is the little things that enrich the everyday. It can be lighting a candle and playing your favorite song as you clean the kitchen, taking a moment to admire the sunset or enjoying a cup of coffee in your favorite mug. It’s in those little moments that we find contentment.
Sundays are typically restful here and I try to keep to the To Do List to a minimum. However, this is the day I wash my bedsheets and hang them outside on the line to dry. I don’t know what it is about hanging bed sheets on the line that just makes me smile. In the evening when I slip in between those cool, crisp bedsheets I feel like I am ready for whatever the new week brings. It’s a wonderful feeling even if it’s not entirely accurate.
Adding Beauty and Romance to Your Everyday
Look for little ways to add more beauty into your day. Plant a row of flowers in your vegetable garden so that you can have fresh flowers on your table. Last fall I planted bulbs just outside by back door. The tulips are just starting to bloom and every morning on my way to start farm chores, I pause and look at those flowers for a moment. I bought the bulbs at Walmart and it probably took fifteen minutes to plant them. Now I will enjoy them every Spring for years to come.
Start an evening self care routine. Take just ten minutes to yourself in the evening to use a lovely face cream, comb your hair and change into a nice pair of pajamas. No one cares about romance when they are tired and stressed. It’s important to take a few moments to focus on you so that you have the energy and creativity to allow beauty and romance into everyday living.
