When it comes to decorating your living room, one of the most overlooked pieces of furniture is the coffee table. With just that small addition, it can have a huge impact on the room. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be the place where your family sits around to play board games, or props their feet on for a movie night. When friends come over, there is a place to set your drinks, while you chat.
How to Choose the Right Coffee
You might not realize it at first, but quite a bit of thought goes into selecting the right coffee table for your home. Without taking a few considerations, you may get a table that doesn’t function well in your space at all. Starting over again can cost time and money. In order to prevent that, I have put together a list of things to consider when choosing the perfect coffee table.
Consider the lay out and purpose of the room.
Look at the lay out of the room. Getting a few quick measurements, will make the process a lot easier to start. Do you have a sectional that is more suited to a square table? Are there chairs grouped in a way that a round table would work best? You want everyone seated to comfortably be able to reach the table without getting up.
How tall and wide should the coffee table be?
The coffee table should be no more than an inch above and two inches below your seat cushions. You will also want the table to be about two thirds the size of your couch. That’s why getting some measurements before hand will save time and money. The table should sit about eighteen inches from the couch or chairs. You should be able to remain seated while putting a glass on the table. There should still have plenty of room to walk around the coffee table.
Of course, you also want to think of your style and what works best for your home. Perhaps you have rambunctious children that love to play in the living room. A delicate, glass table probably isn’t the best option. If you enjoy entertaining, look for a coffee table that suits your lifestyle. Choose one that has plenty of room to set out snacks or drinks for your guests. As beautiful as the table might be, if it doesn’t suit your needs, it just won’t work out. Luckily, with so many options out there, you should find something that will meet your all needs.
Finding a coffee table at any budget
If you haven’t shopped for coffee tables, be prepared for a little sticker shock. A coffee table can vary between $50 to $500. Designer tables are well over that. If you are shopping on a budget, then Facebook Marketplace is a great option. If you aren’t prepared however, it can quickly become more trouble than it’s worth. Unfortunately, people aren’t always straight forward about the condition of the items they are selling. Make sure, you get the dimensions of the table and ask for several pictures close up. Meeting up with a seller can certainly take you out of your comfort zone. It’s important to get all the necessary information you need before the meet up. It can be very uncomfortable to decline and you can feel as though you have already invested too much time. Regardless, you have every right to decline if it doesn’t work for you.
By taking these considerations into account, you can transform your space with a coffee table. One that not only functions well but adds to the overall style and comfort of the space. With a little patience, you can find the right coffee table on any budget.
