We are all more focused on being more intentional with how we spend our money. Often the best way, isn’t one major shift but small changes made over time. If those choices are healthier and better for the environment, then that is a definite win. Learning to save money on laundry can do just that. Just like me, I know you are constantly hearing how toxic so many of our everyday ingredients are. You don’t have to sacrifice your health or the environment for your budget.
5 Tips to Save Money on Laundry
- If it isn’t dirty, don’t wash it. Duh! I know, but how often do we throw that pair of jeans that we had on for just a couple hours into the hamper. How about the clean towel you used when you got out of the shower. Honestly, sometimes I think I do it because it’s easier than putting the clothes away.
- Make your own laundry detergent. I love this laundry detergent.
- Line dry clothes, even in the winter. Clothes can dry outside on the line to as low as 20 degrees. That might be a bit much for some, but you could hang a line in your basement or garage. For smaller loads, those wooden dryer racks come in handy.
- Use the automatic and energy savings options on your washer and dryer. My washer and dryer are as basic as they come. The washing machine has an auto level option and a sensor dry setting on the dryer.
- Fold your clothes as you set them in the laundry basket. This will save you from having to iron or throw the clothes into the dryer to fluff them.
Start out small by changing a few small habits at a time. Once you are at the point where you do it without thinking, add something else. Eventually those changes will add up and make a difference.
